MVP development

Your MVP, working in days.

Turn your idea into a focused first release that real people can use, then grow it with what they show you. Senior-led, properly built, and ready to evolve rather than be thrown away.

Day 6

Embers of Strength had a working V1 in its trainer's hands on day 6, and has had eight releases since.

An MVP without the usual traps

  • Every feature in version one
  • Months before anyone can try it
  • A prototype that has to be thrown away
  • Guessing what users want
  • Spending the budget before launch

Day 6

A personal trainer needed a coaching app her clients would actually use. We agreed the core coaching flows on day 1 and put a working V1 in her hands on day 6.

  1. Day 1Scope agreed: the core coaching flows first.
  2. Days 2–5Built and reviewed with the trainer.
  3. Day 6Working V1 in the trainer's hands.
  4. Day 31v1.0.2: nutrition history, guided help, editable exercise library.
  5. Day 34v1.0.4: weight history, added after real use.
  6. Day 43v1.0.7: faster workout navigation.
  7. Day 66v1.0.9: programme edits reach every client's upcoming sessions.

“The whole process of waiting for my app to be built to launching it has been so smooth… The turn around has been so quick and I honestly couldn't recommend him more.”

How we build your MVP

  1. 1

    Agree the outcome

What must the first release prove, and for whom? We pin that down before anything is designed.

  2. 2

    Cut to the core

We agree the smallest version that creates real value and leave everything else for later, on purpose.

  3. 3

    Build it properly

Real, tested software that people can use, built on foundations that can grow rather than a throwaway prototype.

  4. 4

    Learn and keep shipping

Put it in front of real users, then build what they show is worth building next.

What an MVP can include

Only what your first release needs. These are the building blocks we work with most often.

  • Mobile and web appsiOS, Android and web, from one focused first release.
  • Sign-in and accountsSecure authentication and user profiles.
  • Back end and dataAPIs, databases and the services behind the product.
  • Payments and subscriptionsWhere your business model needs them from day one.
  • Admin toolsSo you can manage content and users yourself.
  • LaunchApp Store and Google Play submission, and the website side if needed.

When it's ready to grow

From first release to full platform

The same approach scales. For a women's fitness membership, Avantra built the whole platform: member apps for iOS and Android with programmes, classes, tracking, health integrations and payments, plus a web CMS for the coaching team.

MVP questions

How quickly can I have a working MVP?

It depends on what the first release needs to prove. Embers of Strength had a working V1 on day 6. You'll get a realistic timeline once we've agreed the scope, before any work begins.

How much does an MVP cost?

Every MVP is scoped to fit. We'll agree the smallest version that creates real value for your goals and budget, and you'll know what it costs before work begins.

Will I have to rebuild it later?

No. An MVP from Avantra is real, tested software built to evolve. Embers of Strength has had eight releases since its day-6 V1, all on the same foundations.

What should be in version one?

Only what's needed to prove the idea with real users. We help you decide what goes in, what waits, and why, so the first release is focused rather than rushed.

Do I own the code?

Yes. You own the commissioned product and its code, as set out in your agreement, and you're never locked in.

What happens after launch?

We keep shipping improvements based on what real users do, or hand over cleanly to your own team. Either way, every change is visible as it happens.

Start with day one.

Tell us your idea and who it's for. You'll get a reply within two working days and an honest view of what a sensible first release looks like.
